Hearts to Be Mended

A lady in love. A gentleman with a reputation. And a secret that keeps them apart.

LADY ELEANOR has all the symptoms of being in love: butterflies in her stomach, her knees in severe danger of buckling and her heart doing somersaults. For all intents and purposes, she should be happy; if only the one man who managed to steal her heart was not also the one man she is forbidden to marry.

HENRY WALTHAM, fifth son of Baron Caulfield, feels blessed and cursed at the same time. While he cherishes the many happy childhood memories of growing up with his band of brothers, the four of them, unfortunately, managed to garner rather scandalous reputations since entering society. Henry wouldn’t care in the least if these reputations didn’t now stand in the way of his own happiness.

Presented with an endless stream of appropriate suitors, Eleanor finds herself faced with the task of choosing a husband by season’s end. A suitable husband, of course. Preferably one with a title, a large fortune as well as an impeccable reputation. Three conditions her beloved Henry does not fulfil.

Aware that the woman he loves is on the brink of being married off, Henry is torn between simply whisking her away to Gretna Green - and let propriety be damned! - and the deep desire to prove himself an honourable man and win her hand through honest means.

Still, not everything is as it seems and, soon, Eleanor and Henry come to realise that the key to their future can only be found in the past.
